Well, we are fully aware of the ongoing debate in the body of Christ concerning this subject. Most Christians believe it is unreasonable to rely on getting messages from God through dreams because of two main reasons;
It is outdated (or at least considered to be)
Our minds are built to make things up so How can we be sure the dream is really from God and not just a figment of our imagination?
What is a dream? The spiritual definition
To take a quote from my book, “Dream is the experience that takes place within our soul and spirit while we sleep” Dr. PAUL S. Joshua (Your dreams and its interpretation).
Dreams are spiritual and only spiritual people can understand them. Although a lot of people confuse dreams with visions but there is a key difference between dreams and vision and knowing this could help your understanding of your dreams .
In order to answer the question of if God still speaks to us through our dreams, we have to attempt to understand one of the laws of the Spiritual realm which I will simplify as this;
“Spiritual things are not to be understood through facts but through faith”
Faith, which is the belief in things not yet seen, is the basis for Christianity and the spiritual realm. The Holy Spirit in us is not a hard factual being we can put our hands on. We feel the presence of the Holy Spirit through activities, actions, and declarations that occur beyond the ordinary (by faith).
The Holy Spirit leads you to discern, decide and demonstrate according to the will of God.
Now why is this important?
We as Christians cannot and should not adopt ordinary human laws into the spiritual realm because it cannot be understood or explained using the hard evidence we seek to find to convince ourselves. This is why, to be a Christian, you do not need to see God telling you “Ah YES! Come now and proclaim your life to ME…” you simply need to believe.
No doubt, there are many ways through which God speaks to individuals. One way God speaks is through His written word(The Bible), He also speaks through clear and still voice, circumstances, visions, dreams, inspiration, etc. You can get a detailed read on other ways God speaks to us here.
Why is dream still relevant today?
The answer is because God is. And as long as He remains relevant, Dreams will always be relevant. It is mode through which He speaks and nothing about God can be redundant. God spoke to Kings and great men through dreams back then, and because He still remains God, He still speaks through dreams because He can and He chooses to.
Does God still speak through dreams? (With Bible examples)
God speaks through various means like, still small voice, circumstances, inspiration, through people around and also through dreams. God has not stopped speaking through dreams. He still speaks through dreams. God has spoken a lot of time to me through dreams and I know most believers will confirm this. So dream is still one of the ways God speaks.
However, the devil also speaks through dream. He communicates with his own disciples or worshippers. He can threaten believers through dream. One thing I know for sure is, there is never a good message from the devil which explains why you have evil dreams. He is horrible, disgusting and destructive; so when he appears in your dream he will surely come with either horrific or disgusting message to your soul and spirit.
The major problem that leads believers to ignore their dreams is not having a genuine medium to know what their dream means
When God speaks, it is very clear but I believe the major problem believers have today is not knowing what your dream means. It can be quite frustrating. Similar to being in a foreign country where you don’t speak or understand the language. When you find yourself in this position, you need to find someone who speaks the same language. This is where I come in. Dreams are not easy to comprehend and people who are not spiritually mature and blessed with the raw Spirit to interpret dreams may not fully understand the message.
I am a dream interpreter for the better part of my life and I can boldly state GOD SPEAKS THROUGH DREAMS. My life has been saved from countless evil because of the dream revealed to me before hand. I also understand that what God is saying to one person, completely differs from what He is saying to another which is why spiritual dreams interpretations should be one on one.
Understanding the meaning of dreams spiritually
The language of dreams are parables - Jesus had a lot of them.
Seeing dogs in your dreams eating your purse does not literally mean a dog is aiming for your purse. Not at all. When God speaks to you in a dream, the message in few circumstances may be literal or direct but in most cases it will be figurative. Our dream may not be very cheap to understand, it may require the involvement of the Holy Spirit to throw more light.
One reason for this is, so the enemies will not decode the context of the message God is revealing to you.
Remember, dreams are in parables because the enemy seeks every opportunity to steal your good dreams. while you sleep and dream, the enemy is not asleep.
They monitor what goes on in the night. So one of the ways God beats down the imagination of your enemies is for Him to show you encoded message through dream which your enemies will never understand what it means.
Who Does God Speak to through dreams?
God speaks to both sinners and believers through dreams. In most cases, when God speaks to sinners, He does this out of His abundant love for His creation to save them from looming disaster either here on earth or in eternity - Job 33: 16-18
