Do you know that over 3 million people would’ve DIED if one man’s dream was forgotten? In the book of Genesis 37-50, it tells us about Joseph the son of Jacob who interpreted the dream that saved millions. Now imagine having such a dream but forgetting it, how detrimental do you think that’ll be?
It is disturbing to my spirit when I hear someone say ‘come on! forget your dreams, they don’t mean anything’ if only you knew the power of your dreams, you will pray to sleep day and night just to dream. I’ve had So many people come to me and said “man of God, I don’t know why but I always forget my dreams, is this normal? Is this how dreams are supposed to be? Or is it because the dreams are not important?” The Bible is the first case study for understanding the power of dreams and when you understand the power, you will quickly realise that forgetting your dreams is not only dangerous, it is disastrous.God does not reveal beautiful things to you in your dreams just so you can forget them when you wake up. His messages are crucial and beneficial to you but they will have no impact to your life if you can’t remember them and follow with appropriate steps. When you forget God’s messages to you in your dreams, it’s like equating His message as something ‘unimportant’ or ‘irrelevant’ and one thing I know about my God, no message He reveals is ‘irrelevant’ or ‘unimportant’
We should all take remembering our dreams as seriously as the king Nebuchadnezzar in Daniel 2, who would’ve killed his entire council of wise men because they could not help him remember his dream. He knew how important remembering your dreams are. In today’s piece, you need guidance on ways you can remember your spectacular dreams.
WHY YOU FORGET YOUR DREAMS:
1. AN ATTACK FROM THE DEVIL ON YOUR MIND
This is almost always the case when you forget your dream. The devil comes to take the wisdom God has implanted in your mind so that he can control your thoughts and your actions. Dream is spiritual. It occurs in the spirit realm and when the devil wants to frustrate you, he attacks your spirit by blocking the channel of communication between you and Your Heavenly Father. The point of this is for you to understand that by human calculations and ability, you can never recall the messages in your dreams because dreams are spiritual. Only spiritual minds can tap into the realm to extract the details of lost dream. The message interpreted in the King’s dreams by Daniel held a valuable message which was the reason the devil took hold of the king’s mind. When you always dream but wake up without remembering the dream, your spirit is under attack. I always say the devil’s purpose is to steal and no thief will ever steal whatever is not valuable. I have never heard of a thief coming to steal anything that’s no value to anyone, so when the devil steals a dream from your mind, it should be obvious to you that there is something of great value in that dream. You must fight to take it back.
2. AGITATION/WORRIES
When you are filled with agitations. Agitations means worries of life. One of the reason why you might easily forget your dreams is when you have too many things troubling your mind.
You have too many things battling your attention and it will be obviously difficult for you to retain any information. When your mind is in a consistent state of anxiety it’ll never let the word of God to settle and find its way into your heart. So putting our mind at rest and in comfort will help you retain your dreams.
3. CARELESSNESS
This has to do with us being indifferent about our dreams, how do you react whenever you have a dream? Do you treat it as if it is just a dream without meaning? That’s not the way to react to the message of our Heavenly Father. It is just like having a conversation you are not interested in, you wouldn’t remember it after 5 minutes. Having dreams and not paying them any attention or being careless is a sure way to forget them, with or without the influence of the devil. Writing them down and retracing the events of the dream will help you maintain the information.
4. AGE
Humans are not immortal. The mind of a 10 year old is sharper than that of a 70 years old person. When the nature of age starts to diminish your brain capacity, you will no longer be able to retain informations as well as you used to. This is not something to be worried about but you can seek God to help you age with grace.
The Mystery of Nebuchadnezzar’s Forgotten Dream
I remember this happened in Daniel 2, a king Called Nebuchadnezzar had an extremely crucial dream, a dream that was sensitive and mattered to his cabinet, a dangerous dream so to say but when he woke up, he lost the dream. Deep inside of him, he knew he got a message in his dream but just like the cool wind that blows at night, it was completely blown away from his memories. Now, a king of his nature with power and authority to command people and kingdoms to his feet became not only unhappy but extremely desperate to discover what it was that he saw in his dreams. This is also a crucial point for you to know. When you have a dream, do not let it be just a ‘memory’ especially as a man or woman of the Holy Spirit. Dreams reveal powerful messages that could greatly impact your daily experience. If you are not desperate to know the meaning of your dreams, you will lose important opportunities in life and you can become victims to heartbreaking circumstance that would’ve been avoided if it was revealed in your dream and interpreted by the spirit. Do not pay heed to people who constantly attack the messages in your dreams by insisting your dreams are just dreams. They are not. They are important. God speaks through dreams. The devil speaks through dreams. Dreams can predict your future in various aspects of your life. But until you know how they communicate, you can never fully understand what to do when you have dreams. One fascinating fact about King Nebuchadnezzar is that he was not a believer of Christ. He worshiped carved gods and deities which is why he summoned Sorcerers and his magician instead of a prophets to solve the mystery of his forgotten dream.
Daniel 2:1-12
1 In the second year of his reign, Nebuchadnezzar had dreams; his mind was troubled and he could not sleep.
2 So the king summoned the magicians, enchanters, sorcerers and astrologers to tell him what he had dreamed. When they came in and stood before the king, he said to them, “I have had a dream that troubles me and I want to know what it means. ”
4 Then the astrologers answered the king, “May the king live forever! Tell your servants the dream, and we will interpret it.”
5 The king replied to the astrologers, “This is what I have firmly decided: If you do not tell me what my dream was and interpret it, I will have you cut into pieces and your houses turned into piles of rubble.
6 But if you tell me the dream and explain it, you will receive from me gifts and rewards and great honor. So tell me the dream and interpret it for me.”
7 Once more they replied, “Let the king tell his servants the dream, and we will interpret it.”
8 Then the king answered, “I am certain that you are trying to gain time, because you realize that this is what I have firmly decided:
9 If you do not tell me the dream, there is only one penalty for you. You have conspired to tell me misleading and wicked things, hoping the situation will change. So then, tell me the dream, and I will know that you can interpret it for me.”
10 The astrologers answered the king, “There is no one on earth who can do what the king asks! No king, however great and mighty, has ever asked such a thing of any magician or enchanter or astrologer.
11 What the king asks is too difficult. No one can reveal it to the king except the gods, and they do not live among humans.”
12 This made the king so angry and furious that he ordered the execution of all the wise men of Babylon.
HOW TO REMEMBER YOUR DREAMS
By understanding why you forget your dreams, you can evaluate yourself. Here are ways you can remember your spiritual dreams:
1. PRAYER FOR MERCY
When you always forget your dream so much that it becomes a habit, the first thing you must do is what I call prayer of mercy. This works in getting your dreams back. You have to say Lord , have mercy. Whatever it is that makes me to forget my dreams so that I won’t be able to pick the significant message you have for me, oh God have mercy on me.” This is very important. Prayer of mercy can restore your spiritual ability to retain divine revelations revealed in your dreams. Daniel sought the Lord’s mercy on behalf of the king and God revealed the dream of the king to him while he slept
Daniel 2:18 “He urged them to plead for mercy from the God of heaven concerning this mystery, so that he
and his friends might not be executed with the rest of the wise men of Babylon.
During the night the mystery was revealed to Daniel in a vision. Then Daniel praised the God of heaven”
2. FORGIVENESS (STOP HOLDING GRUDGES)
King Nebuchadnezzar was an aggressive person which is why he issued a decree that he was going to execute all his magicians if they could not tell him his dream. You can see the kind of heart he carried. No wonder he forgot his dream. When you keep the past grudges, past bitterness, past malice, past fights and all kinds of negative things, you allow them to be stored in your brain. it becomes difficult for the new things God is doing to be revealed. PROACTIVE INTERFERENCE WHEREBY THE OLD THINGS IN YOUR MIND BLOCKS THE ACCEPTANCE OF NEW INFORMATION THaT ARE SUPPOSED TO COME IN TO YOU. If you’re the type of person who list down names of people who offend you including their first name, last name, middle name, the date, the time, the location and you also have a detailed record of how the offence took place -
May 2002 - My neighbour Maria, removed my clothes from the washer without asking.
From now on, anytime I see her clothes, I will take it. When I see her son, I will knock his head.
As long as you don’t forget the things are behind or the things that are passed, your bitterness will take larger space in your mind and it will be difficult for new information to settle in you. Just like when you have a phone with full memory storage, you can’t add new files to it without deleting something. ~This is how it is with your mind. You must offload all bitterness, grudges, malice, fights, things of old from your mind in other to begin to receive and remember your dreams
3. REVISE
Most times when we have that brief moment when we wake up from our dreams we don’t use that time to think back on what the dream might mean, but it is also a very important strategy in improving your memory and remembering your dream. When we retrace our memory for the key aspects of the dream, no matter how sleepy you are, your dream will be very easy to remember later on.
4. SLEEP POSITION & COUNTENANCE
This is also scientifically backed. Remember that God gives the wisdom for science. When you sleep, make sure you are in a comfortable sleeping position that will allow you have unrestricted flow to the divine realm. The body is a vessel of the spirit but without wisdom of taking care of your body, the spirit cannot be manifested. Sleep in comfortable positions and when you wake up, you will recall your dreams. Take time out of your day to walk around, exercise, eat good food, surround yourself with things that bring joy to you.
With the help of a skilled interpreter you will be sure to decode the messages hidden in your dreams. It is your responsibility to discover what your dreams mean when you dream. Seek a spiritual dream interpreter that can demystify your dreams one on one. Dreams don’t mean the same thing to everyone and you must make sure the interpreter is someone who is spiritually sound. I believe from today, you will begin to remember your dreams in Jesus name.
